How to spend your extra hour

Daylight savings time is over, which means today we get an extra hour of the weekend! Here are a couple of ways to spend your bonus time:

Read about New York City's Clock Master: Someone has to manually adjust the time! Learn about the man who has been repairing and changing some of the oldest clocks in NYC since 1992.

Make a quiche: It sounds intense, but making a quiche (especially when you use Trader Joe's frozen pie crust, which is AMAZING) is actually pretty straightforward. At the end you're rewarded with a comforting and tasty piece of art that tastes even better the next day!

Play Scrabble and learn about its origins: As a writer, I'm legally obligated to name Scrabble as one of my favorite games. Ever since I was a kid playing on my grandma's fancy rotating board, I've loved the soothing and brainy nature of the activity. Until now, I've never known the humble beginnings of the game, which was created during the Great Depression and finally hit the big time in the 50s after being stocked at Macy's.

Check out the Amber Ruffin show: After making its debut on the Peacock streaming service at the end of September, Amber Ruffin's show has already gone viral for segments like this one. Learn more about her journey to late night and how she's changing up the typical late night format.

Travel the world via a cookbook: Chef Samin Nosrat (of Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat fame) writes a love letter for The New York Times about the power of cookbooks to transport you to another place without leaving your kitchen.

Go outside: I have nothing to link here; it's just a general PSA!! When I feel anxious or bored, I almost always feel better after taking even just a short walk outside. Savor the fall leaves, feel the crisp cold air and get a change of scenery!
