A dose of happy for your week
Happy Tuesday, friends! I hope you're all able to find some quiet moments of peace within all of this craziness. To help you with that, I've included a rundown of some things that are making me smile:
John Krasinski is trying to break the internet weekly with Some Good News, where he hosts his own quick talk-show-esque show. Within the week since it premiered, he's already caused people to freak out twice by having Steve Carrell on and by featuring the entire original Broadway cast of Hamilton performing the show's opening number via Zoom.
My family has been watching a lot of comedy specials over the last few weeks and Hasan Minhaj's Homecoming King is one to put on your list! It's hilarious and brilliantly constructed, as the whole set is part of a larger story about Hasan's life. If you're looking for more content once you've finished the special, you can watch this lovely video of Hasan and John Mulaney in a deep cut from Patriot Act.
Growing up, one of my favorite book series was Meg Cabot's Princess Diaries collection and in my adulthood I've loved the tiny peeks Meg still gives us into Mia's life through the occasional diary entry. During quarantine, Meg is serving up almost daily installments so that we can feel connected to our favorite princess.
If you were sleeping on it the first time, there's no time like the present to explore NPR's end of 2019 Book Concierge, which will help you find the perfect read to accompany your couch time.
I'm always craving more content from Nancy Meyers, so I absolutely loved a column she wrote for The New York Times Modern Love section, with the most perfect title in the world: "Life Isn’t Like the Movies (Even if You Write the Movies)," about her relationship with her ex-husband.
A bunch of TV writers sat down imagined what their characters would be doing in present-day quarantine and the excerpts of dialogue or pitched scenarios are all compiled in this Vulture article. The 30 Rock and Frasier parts are PERFECTION.
Schitt's Creek comes to a close tonight, and I can't even begin to think about it ending (but if you want to think about it, here's a great Variety article). So instead, let's read Elle's history of the song sweeping the nation -- A Little Bit Alexis. Annie Murphy (Alexis Rose herself) spent Saturday night on Instagram teaching viewers the song's iconic dance, in character, in costume, for charity. Give this woman an Emmy!!!!
