Jane Austen season
Early into quarantine, I saw several Twitter posts commentating that life was beginning to feel like a Jane Austen novel, as there isn't much to do during long days except go for walks, take a turn about the room, sew, play an instrument or write letters. As we head into the winter months, there seemed no better time to go full Austen.
Regency-style romance in Bridgerton
There are a few things you need to know before you begin your Bridgerton journey. The first: Do not under any circumstances watch this show with your parents, your children, etc. If you decide to ignore this, you'll be haunted by my words within the first few minutes of the show. And then if you decide, well that wasn't so awkward, you'll be reminded of my warning A LOT in episode six.
Pop Culture Rundown
A Harry Styles music video, a new (old) Aly & AJ single & more pop culture happenings
2020 wrap-up
Usually end of December newsletters are a jubilant celebration of all the amazing TV, music, movies and books consumed throughout the year. This year was different.
New Girl holiday episodes, ranked
In its seven season run, New Girl gave us four holiday episodes. And let me just say this... they're all great, so we're pretty much just splitting hairs in the rankings.
Nancy Meyers week at Vulture
Did you see what happened during Vulture’s Nancy Meyers week? What started as a weeklong tribute to the writer/director on New York Magazine's arts and culture website turned into a social media showdown.
It's time to watch The Holiday
Burn your copy of Love, Actually. The far superior British(ish) romcom is The Holiday! Written and directed by the brilliant Nancy Meyers, this box office holiday film tells the story of unlucky-in-love Iris (Kate Winslet) and Amanda (Cameron Diaz), who are both looking to get out of town for the holidays. They swap houses and get adventure and romance! Let's watch.
Great British Baking Show
If you're as into the holiday season as I am, you've probably learned you have to pace yourself! You can't listen to the holiday radio station 24/7 and plug in a Christmas movie every day (especially if you started pre-Thanksgiving) or you'll reach a holiday overload before the 25th!! When I need to change-up my viewing options, I'm turning on The Great British Baking Show.
Thanksgiving episodes of New Girl
It's almost Thanksgiving and while movies are in short supply, there are plenty of festive TV episodes to choose from. New Girl features a Thanksgiving-themed installment during almost every season of its run. Which is best? I'm about to fill you in.
Dash & Lily
Let's be honest, Netflix sometimes churns out so much content that the writing, acting and production value doesn't hold up (i.e. any of their holiday movies, with the exception of The Christmas Chronicles). When I turned on the first installment of Dash & Lily, I was pleasantly shocked to find an adorable, festive, sugary with some spice, heartfelt romcom that channels To All the Boys I've Loved Before meets You've Got Mail.
Friday Night Lights
Something about being home during autumn for the first time in years is really making me think about high school football games, which meant it was the perfect time for my FIRST VIEWING of Friday Night Lights. I've watched seasons one through three (and am trying to slow down my pace to savor the final two), so here is my current ranking of the main characters in the Friday Night Lights universe.
How to spend your extra hour
Daylight savings time is over, which means today we get an extra hour of the weekend! Here are a couple of ways to spend your bonus time:
Cozy Entertainment
Patti LuPone impersonations, a West Wing reunion and a ginger cookie recipe
High School Musical 2
I know, I can't believe it either... it's taken me a full summer in quarantine before this rewatch took place. Right here, right now, I'm ready to get my head in the game and work this out because it's now or never and we're all in this together!! If you didn't understand the myriad of references I just packed into that grammatically questionable sentence, then you're also due for a HSM rewatch.
100th TV Episodes
In honor of the 100th edition of Seen & Heard, we're diving into TV shows that also reached this milestone. How did they celebrate their 100th episode? Some made it the most dramatic episode ever, some peppered in special guests, some added a random musical number (you can never go wrong with that strategy), and some featured a BIG event.
Pop Culture Rundown
Baseball is back, The Bold Type should be better, a surprise Taylor Swift album dropped and the TV streaming wars continue! Explore the latest in pop culture news, along with some random bits about food.
Pitch, Stanley Tucci & more
As I've said before, the internet can be a scary place filled with doom, and it's tempting to sit on your phone or computer during the weekend and endlessly scroll. But I've waded through some of the darkness for you! Here are some quick bursts of joy for your weekend pleasure.
The Amazing Race
I'm just going to come right out and admit that until a few weeks ago, I had never seen an episode of The Amazing Race.
